Welcome to Flying Fish
Racing
!

Welcome to the
Flying Fish Racing web site.
Established in 2006, our team is comprised of sprint car racing fans
that were done watching and ready to play! The 2008 season marks our
second year of oval dirt track racing. This year the Flying Fish
Racing Team will be competing with the Bay Cities Racing Association
(BCRA) in the “Midget Lite” division. We will be visiting ¼ to 3/8 mile
California race tracks in Placerville, Marysville, Antioch, Petaluma,
and Bakersfield.

Rick Soto
Owner/Driver, Rick Soto, will pilot the #30
A.R.T./SUZUKI mini sprint throughout the spring, summer and fall
seasons. A long time dirt track race fan, his passion for racing
began in the early 70’s watching micro/mini-sprints run at the Jet
Bowl in Lemoore, CA. Attending motocross, scramble, speedway and
flat track motorcycle events across the San Joaquin Valley became an
addiction to Rick and his father Gene. However, it was the midgets,
modifieds and sprints cars that fueled their fire. Kearny Bowl,
Santa Maria, Hanford and Tulare’s Thunderbowl. Marysville, Chico
and Placerville. San Jose, Watsonville, Calistoga………USAC, Bandits,
NARC, Civil War, Outlaws…it didn’t matter where or who…if it was on
dirt and they were sliding…Rick and Gene were there!
“As we begin our second racing season, our goal
again is to be consistent and competitive. Our rookie year proved to
be an invaluable lesson to everyone on the team as we learned so
much about racing throughout the season. We met such great people at
the track that were willing to help and advise. Racing with the BCRA
Midget Lites will be competitive and demanding, but everyone is
looking forward to another great racing season!”….Rick

George Stewart
Team
member George Stewart brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to
Flying Fish Racing. As an ASE Master Certified and Ford Master
Certified mechanic from 1986 until 2003, George “refined” his wrenching
skills. A racer at heart, he ran his first motocross race at King’s
Speedway in Hanford, CA on a Honda SL70 in 1973. George worked for
Honda and Honda Power Products from 1978 until 1986 building, tuning,
testing and racing winning motocross machines. When not at the track,
riding dirt bikes or camping, George can be found in his S&S
Tools/Cornwell Tools truck making the rounds in the East Bay and
the Delta.

Terry Shoeffler
Terry
Shoeffler of “Terry’s Taxidermy” began going to the races
with his father as a boy. It was in 1969 at the paved ¼ mile Stockton
99 Speedway where he was a crew member for a modified race team. Terry
remained a loyal race fan at the track until the speedway closed in
2006. In the 70’s, Tuesday night grudge matches at Kingdon Raceway kept
Terry busy in his ’65 Chevy Malibu. The “need for speed” in the mid to
late 70’s had Terry drag racing his 1923 T-Bucket with a built 327 450HP
at 10 second pace. Terry’s all around racing experience is a welcome
addition to the Flying Fish Race Team.

Jeff Stark
Glad to
be back at the dirt oval is team member Jeff Stark. In the early 70’s
spending time at the track helping his uncle’s sprint team was Jeff’s
favorite pastime. West Capital Raceway in West Sacramento, CA was the
track of choice but traveling with the crew to San Jose, Chico,
Placerville and Marysville filled out his summers as a kid. Moving on
to assist a neighbor with a stock car helped to hone his wrenching
skills and racing knowledge. Jeff is looking forward to owning and
driving his own car in the near future.

Greg Gunby
Greg Gunby takes on the role of “Rover” for the
Flying Fish Racing Team. The “jack of all trades” will fill in when
needed and help in all phases of racing throughout the season.
Greg’s inherent eye for detail will definitely be an asset to the
team.
“Growing up in Roseville, I got hooked on
hearing the sound of the cars racing around the track at the
fairgrounds. As I grew older I would visit tracks in the area and
watch different classes of Sprint cars racing around the dirt
track. I always wondered what it would be like to be in the pits,
and now I’ve taken the bait and will get the chance to reel in the
big one by being on the pit crew for Rick during his second season!
I am looking forward to the challenges and the excitement that this
second season will bring for the Flying Fish Racing Team.” Greg
